Course content
|
The lecture chronologically introduces individual epochs of German literature. Due to the time limitations the individual epochs will presented briefly. In connection with a specific era the most important historic dates, attributes, major authors and their works will be discussed. If the students are further interested in a specific epoch, they will be recommended to attend specialized lectures. For better orientation the students will be given a hand-out with a short description of the discussed literary period at the beginning of each session.

Learning outcomes
|
The lecture first deals with the theory of the history of German literature (periodization of literary history). Mainly it thematizes particular periods of german literatrue from the beginnings to 1800 and concrete connections of literature to various contexts (historical, political, religious, other kinds of art, etc.).
The resulting competence lies in the basic overview of the developmental stages of German literature from the beginnings to the contemporary literature and in the ability to perceive the literary text in connection to general and literary history, to its aesthetic and sociological connections as well as explore its relations to the literature of the students' mother tongue or to the literature of their second major.

Prerequisites
|
The lecture is compulsory for first-year students of the bachelor study program of the German studies. It is recomended for first-year students of the bachelor study program Grrman for interpreting and translation. Students of German studies from higher years and students of other majors may also attend the lecture.

Written exam
Written test: content of the lectures + required reading.
