Course content |
The course provides basic concepts of modelling and simulation using spatial data in the environment of geographic information systems. All aspects of the modeling of geographical phenomena are taught first on a theoretical level and then demonstrated on selected tasks. The exercises are designed as discussion forums on case studies in GIS. Emphasis is placed on analytical thinking, specialized software tools and extensions. 1. Approaches to spatial modelling 2. Systems theory, feedback 3. Classification of models 4. Modelling procedure 5. Quality of spatial data 6. The concept of uncertainty in GIScience 7. Modelling and simulation of complex systems 8. Cellular automata, Markov chains 9. Agent-based spatial modelling 10. Spatio-temporal modelling, TemporalGIS 11. Use of spatial modelling in geosciences
