Course content
|
Students will gain an overview of old maps and important map collections. The seminars are focused on understanding the importance of old maps and plans as historical information sources. The course includes practical lessons dealing with metric analysis of old maps. The seminars include the independent work of students focused on the correct use and knowledge of old maps. Syllabus: Introduction to the history of cartography (definitions of terms and definitions) Maps of the oldest cultural nations and cartography in prehistory and antiquity Greek and Roman cartography Cartography in the Middle Ages (European, Arabic and Chinese cartography) Renaissance and Reformation of cartography Modern cartography, detailed mapping of European countries from the middle of the 18th century. The oldest maps of our countries up to the middle of the 18th century. Contemporary cartography of our countries from the middle of the 18th century. Methods of morphometric analysis of old maps Techniques of digitization and publishing of old maps on the Internet
