Course content
The course focuses on the historical development of urban planning and the principles of spatial planning. Students are also introduced to the current legislation governing spatial planning and the building code, as well as to the procedures for the preparation and approval of spatial planning documentation. As part of the course, students prepare and submit a seminar paper on the urban development of a selected city. Main Topics 1. Urban planning and its origins. 2. Medieval urban planning. 3. Early modern urban planning. 4. Urban planning during the long nineteenth century (1789-1914). 5. Twentieth-century and contemporary urban planning. 6. The spatial planning system of the Czech Republic. 7. The process of preparing land-use plans and spatial decision-making.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the historical development of urban planning, as well as with the principles and legislation of spatial planning.
Recall basic terms and concepts of landscape planning and urbanism.
Prerequisites
Knowledge within the scope compulsory subjects that precede this subject in the study plan.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Seminar Work

To successfully complete the course, students are required to: 1. Register in Moodle in a timely manner and submit all required assignments by the deadlines set by the instructors. 2. Prepare and submit a satisfactory seminar paper. 3. Pass the written examination.
