Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the concept of a region, the theoretical foundations of regional taxonomy, and the practical principles of regional delineation. During practical classes, students apply selected methods of regional taxonomy or their individual components. Main Topics 1. The concept of a region in geography (historical development, classification of regions, regional hierarchy, shape and internal structure of regions). 2. Existing regionalizations of the Czech Republic (both physical-geographical and human-geographical). 3. General procedures, principles, and aspects of regional taxonomy. 4. Methods of formal and functional regional taxonomy (data organization, data analysis, basic operations with data matrices, hierarchical and non-hierarchical methods, agglomerative methods, and rule-based methods). 5. Applications of regional taxonomy to the territory of the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquaint the students with the concept of the region and with the methods of delineating and analysis of the regions.
Recall basic terms and methods of geographical regionalisation.
Prerequisites
Knowledge within the scope of compulsory subjects that precede this subject in the study plan.

Oral exam, Student performance

Requirement for successful completion of the course is: 1. on time enrolment to moodle and delivery of all required tasks in deadlines provided by the tutors. 2. correct elaboration of required tasks and/or seminar work 3. active participation in team tasks 4. passing the oral exam. All part must be fulfiled independently on each other. Undelivery of parts 1, 2 and 3 means that the credit is not granted and the oral exam cannot be enroled.
