Course content
|
Position of the territory of the Czech Republic in the geological structure of Europe. The Bohemian Massif and Western Carpathians. The evolution of the territory in the Palaeozoic, Mesozoic, Tertiary and Quaternary. Neotectonics. Changes of the surface morfology, changes of climate, stream network. Main processes of erosion and denudation and their manifestations. Sedimentary cycle of the Quaternary.

Learning outcomes
|
Understanding the evolution of nature in the Czech Republic. Geological developments, the fossil flora, fauna, ichnofauna. 1. Precambrian, 2. Paleozoicum, 3. Mesozoicum, 4. Kenozoicum.
The students should be able to: - define the position of the Czech Republic in the geological buildup of Europe, outline the Bohemian Massif and the Western Carpathians - describe the evolution of this area from the Paleozoic till the Quaternary and the role of neotectonics define the changes in land morphology, climate, river network, erosional-denudative processes and their manfestations.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of related disciplines: geology, biology and geography.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Written exam
The course is destined for students of MSc. level. Knowledge of broader background of geology is necessary. Exam: ability of interdisciplinary discussion about interrelations of abiotic and biotic factors of nature's evolution, above all in the Quaternary.
