Learning outcomes |
The course is an introduction to the 20th century analytic philosophy of art. It aims to acquaint students with a selection of the major topics in this field of inquiry. These include: definition of art, aesthetic realism, ontology of art, representational theory of art, formalism, neo-Wittgensteinism, the Institutional Theory of Art and others. Throughout the course, some of the abstract philosophical theories will be illustrated by examples of both traditional and contemporary art.
Students will get acquainted with the main theories and debates in the analytic philosophy of art. Emphasis will be put on critical analysis and evaluation of the relevant arguments. Students will learn to think about art in a more subtle and conceptually sophisticated way. |
Prerequisites |
This seminar is intended for students of the Bachelors program. The entirety of this seminar will be in English so a fairly high level of English is required.
