Course content
This course deals with basic chemical engineering and basic operation units used in chemical technology. It also deals with main types of used process plants and chemical-engineering calculations that are demonstrated on simple examples. Apart from the lectures it includes the study trip to the pharmaceutical company FARMAK Olomouc. 1. Systems of units. 2. Weight balance. 2.1. Substance quantity, substance flow. 2.2. Balance equation. 3. Mechanical operations with liquids. 3.1. Transport. 3.2. Filtration, sedimentation, centrifugation. 3.3. Stirring. 3.4. Basic types of plant. 4. Energy balance. 5. Heat conduction. 5.1. Heat exchangers. 5.2. Heat conductive substances. 5.3. Evaporation. 5.4. Evaporation residues. 6. Diffusion operations. 6.1. Distillation. 2. Rectification. 6.3. Extraction. 6.4. Drying. 6.5. Basic types of plant. 7. Mechanical operations. 7.1. Basic types of plant (mills, homogenizers). 8. Basic pharmaceutical engineering. 8.1. Good production practice. 8.2. Selection of plant according to the principles of Good engineering practice. 8.3. ISPE (International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering).
