Course content
|
Lectures 1. Introduction to rehabilitation nursing as a discipline and overview of fundamental terminology. 2. Complications and secondary conditions associated with patient immobility, including their basic assessment and therapeutic management from the perspective of rehabilitation nursing. 3. Hospitalism; ethical, hygiene, and patient safety principles in healthcare delivery. Practical Classes 1. Ergonomics in nursing care; patient positioning - Part I. 2. Patient positioning - Part II; positioning aids. 3. Horizontal mobilization and patient transfer aids. 4. Upright mobilization (vertical mobilization) and patient transfer aids. 5. Gait training and mobility aids. 6. Basic passive and active bed exercises and breathing exercises. 7. Review and practical revision.

Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces students to the fundamentals of rehabilitation nursing with an emphasis on the competencies of physiotherapists in the care of hospitalized patients. Students acquire knowledge and practical understanding of the principles of safe patient handling, positioning, early mobilization, and other interventions aimed at preventing complications associated with immobility. Furthermore, the course familiarizes students with the principles of comprehensive patient care for individuals with a wide range of health conditions, the fundamentals of interprofessional collaboration within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, and the application of ethical, hygiene, and patient safety principles in clinical practice.
The student applies the acquired knowledge and skills in clinical practice. They are able to safely handle and transfer patients both in and out of bed and to perform basic physiotherapeutic interventions, including patient mobilization to the upright position, gait training, bed-based therapeutic exercise, and therapeutic positioning aimed at preventing complications associated with patient immobility. In providing patient care, the student adheres to the principles of patient safety, infection prevention and control, and interprofessional collaboration.

Prerequisites
|
A fundamental knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics is a prerequisite for this course.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Oral exam, Written exam
Attendance is mandatory for all classes (100%).To obtain course credit, students must successfully pass both a written theoretical examination and a practical skills assessment. A maximum of three attempts is permitted for each assessment.
