Course content
|
Practical Classes: 1. History and development of the Pilates method, current approaches, fundamental principles of the Pilates method, and methodology for designing a Pilates exercise session. Practical training in the basic mat exercise sequence (MAT I). 2. Practical training in the basic mat exercise sequence (MAT II, MAT III). 3. Practical training in Pilates exercises using equipment . 4. Practical training in basic exercises on Pilates apparatus. 5. Modification of Pilates exercises in kinesitherapy - indications and contraindications, progression and regression of exercise difficulty, and individualization of exercise programmes. Application of the Pilates method in the prevention of poor posture and functional spinal disorders. 6. Application of the Pilates method in patients with vertebrogenic disorders. 7. Review of the course content and student presentations of the course assessment requirements.

Learning outcomes
|
Students will acquire a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of the Pilates method and develop practical skills in performing and instructing selected mat-based exercises, exercises using specific Pilates equipment, and exercises on Pilates apparatus. They will learn to apply the principles of the Pilates method in the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and become familiar with its applications in physiotherapy practice.
The student is able to apply the fundamental principles and exercises of the Pilates method in the prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.

Prerequisites
|
A prerequisite for this course is a basic knowledge of anatomy, the principles of therapeutic and compensatory exercise, and the fundamentals of physiotherapy assessment methods.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Systematic Observation of Student, Final project
A minimum attendance rate of 80% is required. To obtain course credit, students must successfully defend a project on the assigned topic. Students are allowed a maximum of three attempts.
