Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a detailed introduction to and understanding of the main research streams in the student's specialisation (philology, historical sciences, political sciences, sociology and cultural anthropology, arts and cultural sciences), including the methodologies underlying them. A methodological reading list is compiled and approved as part of this course in the third semester of study. The student studies these key theoretical and methodological works in detail and analyses their content in a written form. Through regular consultations with the supervisor and the consultant, the student incorporates discussion of these works into his/her dissertation. A key part of this is a detailed analysis of the methodology of these works so that the student is able to evaluate how the authors reach their conclusions critically and on the basis of what findings, data or sources. The main aim is to explain systematically and clearly the relevance of the topic to the wider theoretical debate in the field of the student's specialisation so that the student can engage with the global academic community.

In this course, the student, in cooperation with his/her supervisor and consultant, prepares a detailed study of sources in terms of the applicability of the chosen methodology and theoretical approaches in his/her research. The output is the equivalent of a dissertation chapter focused on the student?s own methodology. The student submits the written thesis to the supervisor and consultant for review, and then presents it orally before the dissertation committee.
