Course content
|
1. The broader context of the seminar paper's development in accordance with the academic focus of the Department of Theater and Film Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University in Olomouc. Choice of topic. 2. Recommended reading and sources related to the chosen topic. 3. Structure and scope of the paper, documentation, and citation standards. 4. Formulation of the methodological introduction. 5. Formulation of the section on the state of sources and literature. 6. Formulation of the main interpretive sections of the paper. 7. Partial conclusions, analysis, and synthesis regarding the topic under study. 8. Review of the thesis structure and title. Consideration of narrowing (or, conversely, broadening) the topic. Supplementary use of sources and additional literature on the topic. 9. Formulation of the conclusion. The thesis's contribution to the student's intellectual development and to musicology in general. Relevance of the topic and the approach to its treatment. 10. Formulation of the abstract and a summary in a foreign language. 11. Appendices, bibliography and list of sources, and any indexes. 12. Final version of the text. Substantive, terminological, and stylistic revision of the thesis text.

|
Students choose a seminar paper (SP) from topics that correspond to a selected required or required-elective course in their degree program. The instructor of the student's chosen course serves as the advisor and evaluator of the seminar paper. Students have 12 weeks of the selected semester to choose a topic and write the paper. The student submits complete draftssections of their seminar paperby the deadlines set by the instructor and in the required quality. Drawing on their existing and newly acquired knowledge, experience, and intellectual abilities, the student develops an original treatise on the chosen topic. The seminar takes the form of individual consultations between the student and their tutor, during which specific formal and content-related issues arising from the academic study are addressed. The standards for the seminar paper and the criteria for evaluating the final paper are the same for all students. The paper is 15 standard pages in length (+/- 1,000 characters), includes the appropriate types and number of sources, and features the required frequency of citations from those sources. The content structure and formal requirements, including language usage, are provided to students before they select a topic via the document "Instructions for the Seminar Paper." Each student is evaluated based on identical criteria (see "Seminar PaperEvaluation Form").
