Theme: Nordic Noir Lecturer: Jana Jedličková Seminar is led in English. **an online version of seminar starts at 8.30 to 9.30 Summary: Nordic noir belongs to one of the most popular film, literary and TV genres in the last decade. However, its shape and genre rules changed over the years and nowdays it also continues to inspire and merge with other genres and fictional forms all over the world. Thus the seminar will be focused not only on the beginings, characteristics and evolution of nordic noir in television but we will discuss and analyze crime TV adaptations inspired by nordic noir among others as well. Students will be expected to watch various TV series from European countries, United States, Australia and New Zealand (two episodes of each at least). They will analyze their genre structure, construction of characters, narative or style characteristics. They will also follow the contexts, in which the series are produced, distributed and promoted. And lastly, the will be expected to read texs about analyzed TV series (most of them being popular TV texts more than academic ones).
Students will prove their ability to analyse particular problems from the field of television and media studies. Students will gain knowledge of the concrete topic on account of studying relevant methodological literature, individual work and collective discussion. Students will be able to competently evaluate selected TV and other media products, their dramaturgical prehension, realization or other distribution media industry contexts linked to these specific outputs.
