The course focuses, among other topics on: the history and development of television stardom, production strategies and marketing techniques in the role of the construction of celebrity status, gender and cultural aspects of celebrity representation, the role of fandom and social media in the construction of television icons, the specificities of the television medium and its personalities (talk show hosts, news anchors, presenters, etc.). Case studies from the Czech and foreign television environment will be included. The exact schedule of topics will be specified at the beginning of the semester via Moodle. In summer semester 2024/25 teached by Anna Rufer Bílá, course is led in English TOPIC: Television and its personalities: the construction of celebrity and stardom Television plays a key role in shaping and sustaining the phenomenon of stardom and celebrity. This course will analyse the mechanisms behind the creation and maintenance of television star status and the role of media and fan communities in shaping their images. We will explore how celebrities are constructed through specific genres (e.g., reality shows, talk shows, soap operas) and how television both reflects and shapes cultural norms, values, and social expectations.
