Course content
|
CONTENT (13 teaching sessions / 25 contact hours): Introduction to the topic, cultural policy beyond urban centers, and seminar overview. Clarification of terminology, discourses, and structures of local culture outside major cultural centers. Who are cultural actors? Typologies, roles, and relationships with local government. How is culture funded? Cultural policy in the local context - how it is developed, who shapes it, how it is reflected in practice (strategies, grant programs, staffing), and how it can be influenced. Workshop: Formulating research questions. How to conduct an interview (principles, ethics, and the role of the interviewer). Fundamentals of thematic analysis and data coding. Learning outcomes
|
Understand the fundamental concepts of cultural policy, cultural management, and cultural funding. Reflect on the role of cultural actors in local contexts, beyond major cultural centers. Become familiar with qualitative research methods in the field of culture (particularly interviewing). Participate in a specific research project and learn how data from cultural practice are collected and interpreted. Develop skills for both independent and collaborative work.
Critical reflection on cultural policy and a systemic approach to thinking about culture in the local context. Conducting interviews and analyzing qualitative data. Professional communication with stakeholders in the public and non-profit sectors. Ability to engage in evidence-based debate and defend one's own views. Presentation and evaluation of research outputs.

Prerequisites
|
Basic orientation in the social sciences and an interest in cultural topics. Knowledge of terminology in the field of cultural policy and management is an advantage.

|

Active participation in seminar sessions. Conducting at least one semi-structured interview. Preparing a reflection on the interview and/or working with the interview transcript. Contributing to the collective sharing of findings. Participation in the final presentation event.
