Political and historical context of schism The consequences for society and the Church Popes and antipopes protagonists Conciliarism, teaching about superiority of the congregation on the council over the Pope Attempts to solve: via facti, via cessionis, via concilii generalis The ideological protagonists of solutions for schism: Gelnhausen, d´Ailly, Gerson, Zabarella Apocalyptic expectations during the time of the Great Western Schism Great Western Schism and the beginnings of the Hussite movement Council of Pisa (1409) and Constance (1414-1418).

Learning outcomes
|
Students will be encouraged to understand the historical context for rise of the Great Papal Schism, will learn about the consequences of the Schism, methods of the elimination of the Schism and canon sources for reformation (interpretation of Decrees - canonist and theological sources). Will introduce major popes and antipopes protagonists, major theological authorities seeking solutions of the situation. The seminar will focus on historical and theological evaluation of council of Pisa (1409) and Constance (1414-1418).
