Course content
|
The exegesis of selected texts from the Gospel of Luke. Perocopes will be chosen from texts belonging to various literary genres. 1) The Boy Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52) 2) The miraculous Catch of Fish and the Calling of the First Disciples (Luke 5:1-11) 3) The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) 4) The Appearance of Jesus on the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) The interpretation of individual texts will proceed according to the steps of the historical-critical method: textual criticism, linguistic and semantic analysis, literary criticism, form criticism, genre criticism, source and redaction criticism.

Reading and study of selected pericopes of the Gospel of Luke, focusing on literary characteristics of the Greek text and its theological message.
The aim of this course is to acquire the application of the basic methods of the exegesis of the New Testament to the actual texts of the Gospel of Luke. Students will be able to work with secondary scholarly exegetical literature about the gospel.

Seminar Work
Passive knowledge of the German (eventually English) language for work with secondary literature is required of all students as is active participation in seminars. Each student must prepare a seminar paper, at least seven standard A4 pages in length, which will present a well-researched interpretation of one pericope of Luke?s Gospel according to the method applied in the seminar. The selection of a pericope for study must be done in consultation with the instructor.
