Course content
In the seminar, attention will be paid namely to following thematic circles: 1) fundamental syntactic relations in traditional and valence based descriptions of syntax, ways of their realization; 2) elementary syntactic unit in individual textbooks of Czech syntax 3) so called constituents of a sentence and syntactic positions in a sentence 4) primary and secondary sentence structures, surface and in/depth level.

Learning outcomes
The seminar is intended for the students of the first year of the bachelor?s study of Czech philology. In the seminar, students will learn principles of sentence analysis based on the valence of verbs.
Practical syntactic analysis of texts, ability to recognize patterns of textual structure and to produce correct texts according to the patterns.
Prerequisites
Students must be able to work with texts of different functional styles, they must recognize patterns of their syntactic structure and produce syntactically correct texts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Active participation in the seminar, preparation of an essay thematically pertaining issues discussed in the seminar.
