Course content

1. Types of Bohemian literature 13 to 15 century: different types of texts and methods of conservation. 2. Czech orthographic systems in the 13 to 15 century. 3. Fonts in the Old Czech manuscripts and first-prints. 4. Phonetics and formal development in the Old Czech time. 5. The main features of the syntax of the Old Czech. 6. Vocabulary development in the Old Czech time. 7. Word Formation of the Old Czech, Czech vocabulary enrichment period. 8. Older and newer Old Czech grammar. 9. Classic and modern concept of editing Old Czech texts. 10. Electronic databases of the Old Czech texts and vocabulary.

Content is the reading and practical edition of medieval Czech texts
Students acquire or deepen the following skills: transcription of Old Czech manuscripts, linguistic analysis of Old Czech texts, work with electronic databases of the Old Czech.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of the medieval Czech history and development of czech language and medieval paleography is an advantage.

Assessment methods and criteria
|

For credit: a written transcription, translation and grammatical analysis of a passage of the Old Czech text. Reading, language translation and comprehensive analysis of the present Old Czech text.
