Cílem předmětu je uvést studenty do problematiky studia knihy, tedy disciplíny, kterou budeme probírat jako alternativu i paralelu ke studiu literatury. Studium knihy, ve světě známé také jako Book studies, Book history apod., je interdisciplinární i transdisciplinární pohled na to, jak zkoumat knihu za hranicemi vývoje domácí literatury. Seznámíme se se základním pojmovým aparátem i hlavními tématy studia knih. Přihlédneme k otázce materiality knihy, životního cyklu knihy, problémům vzniku, produkce a distribuce knih, část diskuze bude věnována čtenářství v různých pohledech. Přednášky jsou zaměřeny spíše na historický a teoretický vhled do problematiky, semináře na konkrétní dílčí problémy. Ty budeme řešit pomocí příkladů i skupinové práce.
