Course content

Linguistic pragmatics, pragmatics, semantics and grammar of text, reference and deixis, presuppositions, speech acts, modification of illocutionary functions, conversational maxims and implicatures, cooperation principle, politeness principle, metapragmatics, discourse analysis, critical vs. positive discourse analysis, manipulation and propaganda, multimodality.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim is to gain an orientation in the newer concepts of pragmatics and sociopragmatics and the ability to apply them to specific communica- tions. While working with authentic linguistic material from various discourse areas, students will especially master the principles of linguopragmatic text analysis in order to be able to correctly determine all the circumstances influencing the emergence of a specific communica- tion and classify the means constituting its final form, assess their adequacy and evaluate the causes of communicative failure/success.
Insight into the issues of pragmatically oriented linguistics. Students are familiar with the newer concepts of pragmatics and sociopragmatics and are able to apply them to specific communications. When working with authentic linguistic material from various discourse areas, students will master the principles of linguopragmatic text analysis in order to correctly determine all the circumstances influencing the emergence of a specific communiqué and classify the means constituting its final form, assess their adequacy and evaluate the causes of communication failure/succes

Prerequisites
|
Basic overview of linguistic theories and disciplines. Knowledge of basic linguistic concepts, ability to work with authentic text.

|
Oral exam, Dialog, Seminar Work
- study of domestic and foreign professional literature - seminar paper based on empirical research - active participation in seminars (students actively analyze selected communications), a maximum of two absences are allowed - oral interview according to the assigned topics
