Course content |
Textual process. From the manuscript to the book. The models of intermediation. The role of publishing in the textual process. The act of writing and its medium (manuscript draft, typescript, electronic record). The role of typography in conceiving a literary work. The book and the literary and book artifact. The models of intermediation and its inner factors. Aesthetic norms and values. Versions and variants of the literary work can be determined by the author's intent as well as the changes of the cultural context into which the texts and manuscripsts are put. The models of intermediation and censorship and auto-censorship. To what extent does the auto-censorship become an inner or outer factor of the textual process? The outer factors of the textual process. Editor, typesetter, copyist. Critical edition of different versions of the text. Variants of the poem interpretation. Selecting the original text out of other variants. Correspondence, diaries, notebooks and the problems that result from them for editors. Selection. Works. Writings.

Learning outcomes |
In the seminar and lectures, attention will be focused namely to the following research and observation: development of the textological theories (from the formalist concepts and structuralism to the genetic criticism, semiotics etc) influence fundamental terms of textology: text, invariant, variant, coherence, evolution of texts and poetic works etc.

Written exam
Requirements to pass Textology (TX) (lectures + seminar) 1) regular attendance at the lectures 2) submitting a written analysis of a text documentation (approximately 4 pages) 3) passing a test (at the end of the term) 4) maximum of 2 absences is allowed 5) participation in discussions |
