Course content
1. Old Church Slavonic in the literary language. 2. The origins of Standard Czech for Jan Hus. 3. Czech in the times Humanism and Baroque. 4. National Revival - Dobrovský´s codification. 5. Jungmann´s generation and development of Czech vocabulary. 6. Purism in 19th century and Jan Gebauer´s codification. 7. Care of the Czech early 20th century; the periodical Naše řeč. 8. Prague Linguistic Circle, the theory of literary language. 9. Czech in the period of Nazism and Communism. 10. The language situation and language culture today.

Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Work with Text (with Book, Textbook)
Learning outcomes
The subject is focused on the external history of literary language.
The aim of this course is to ged basic information on how to relate Czech literary history and the history of Czech society. Be able to interpret the earlier descriptions of the Czech language.
Prerequisites
Is recommended to basic knowledge of diachronic linguistics, especially historical development of Czech and Old Slavonic.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

Active participation in seminars at work (reading and commenting of the assigned texts), preparation of a written seminar work of at least 5 pages.
