Course content
An attention is paied to questions of an origin of language, to problems of language families and convergence areas of languages, sociolinguistic perspectives of the language development and general questions of causes and consequences of language changes. In a practical part of the discipline students are led to individual analysis of a language material and to a working with a secondary literature.

Learning outcomes

Students orientate in diachronic linguistics, they are able to classify pnenomenons of languages' development neither in a general level, nor in a material of languages (especially Indo-European).
Prerequisites
Students dispose of a basic knowledge of a diachronic language development from their earlier pre-graduate studies.
