Course content
In the course of lectures the students will be presented a complex overview of the development of modern linguistic theory of translation established as an interdisciplinary research field using both linguistic and literary resources. Individual lectures will be dealing with world famous schools of translation (the U. S. E. Nida, the Leipzig school, the Paris school, the Moscow school and the Leningrad school). Special attention will be paid to the development and the present state of translation theory in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia. Seminars will be focused on practical analysis of the typology of translation mistakes. Materials provided for analysis will cover various Slavonic and non-Slavonic languages.

Learning outcomes

Special attention will be paid to the development and the present state of translation theory in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia.

Basic knowledge of a foreign language, knowledge of the Czech stylistics
