Protein structure. Post-translational modification, folding and translocation of proteins. Methods of determining and predicting the structure of proteins. Enzymes and molecular motors. The structure of nucleic acids. Interaction of DNA/RNA and proteins. Polysaccharides, glycoproteins and proteoglycans. Lipids and biological membranes. Membrane proteins. Proteins and protein complexes in intercellular and intracellular signaling

Learning outcomes
|
Expansion of basic knowledge about the structures and functions of biological macromolecules - proteins, nucleic acids and lipids.
Understanding of the basic principles of formation and modification of the structure of macromolecules, relationships between structure and biological activity, ability to discuss structural parameters of proteins and nucleic acids.

Prerequisites
|
The course is intended for bachelor students of biochemistry and other students in chemical and biological fields. The recommended prerequisite is completion of the course Fundamentals of Biochemistry (KBC/BCH).

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Written exam
The subject ends with an exam in the form of a written test. The test contains 20 questions, each of which is evaluated with a maximum of 2 points for the correct answer and its justification. Test grading scale: F: 0-19, E: 20-23, D: 24-28, C: 29-32, B: 33-36, A: 37-40.
