Course content
Content: Familiarization with the instructions and requirements for the preparation of a diploma thesis. Lectures by experts in the field of biochemistry introducing students to research issues solved outside the Faculty of Science, UP. Lectures by graduates of the Biochemistry study program focused on the experience gained after starting work and the possibilities of applying graduates. Searching for a professional article published in an impact journal focused on a biochemical topic that does not coincide with the focus of one's own diploma thesis. As part of the project teaching, prepare a separate presentation in PowerPoint, with the aim of presenting to other students in an oral presentation, an introduction to the issue, the material and methods used, the results achieved and the resulting conclusions. Emphasis is placed on the involvement of students in the discussion, which always follows individual presentations, and both the ability to answer questions and, on the contrary, to ask questions. An integral part of the prepared presentation will be the presentation of the objectives of the assigned diploma thesis. Output: Processed presentations in PowerPoint.

Learning outcomes
Obtain the necessary information for the realization of the diploma thesis. A lesson on the issue of plagiarism. Learn to summarize basic information and results from a given professional article. The ability to process this information clearly in the form of a PowerPoint presentation and to learn how to present published professional results. Strengthening the student's ability to participate in a discussion on a professional topic.
Obtaining basic information regarding the requirements for the preparation of a diploma thesis. Obtaining an overview of research work in the field of biochemistry carried out in Olomouc. Obtaining an overview of the experiences of graduates of the Biochemistry study program after entering practice. Obtaining information about the practical application of graduates of the Biochemistry study program. Improvement in the ability to create a professional presentation and its interpretation. Strengthening the student's ability to participate in a discussion on a professional topic.
Prerequisites
For students of the 1st year of the follow-up study of Biochemistry.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

The condition for obtaining credit is 100% participation in the seminar (possibility of replacing up to 2 previously excused absences due to serious reasons, each absence will be replaced by a substitute seminar work). Elaboration of a PowerPoint presentation based on a professional article published in a high-impact journal focused on biochemical topics that do not coincide with the focus of the thesis. Own oral presentations, including active participation in the discussion of the discussed topics.
