Course content
|
Principles of communication, communication means, active listening. Empathy. Congruency. Unconditional acceptance. Communication with problematic clients. Communication with the clients with regards to their age and gender. Communication with the clients who suffer from the chosen diagnoses. Communication with the clients while taking into consideration their socio-cultural differences. Communication with the clients with regards to their religion. Specifics of communication with people in old age. Ethical aspects of communication in healthcare facilities - with clients, relatives, and members of a multidisciplinary team. Communication with people who have their specific needs in a healthcare facility. Influence of communication means on health prevention and increasing the level of health promotion in the society.

Learning outcomes
|
After passing the course, students should be able to: - Define the principles of communication, - Explain the basic communication terminology, - Explain the specifics of communication with the chosen groups of clients in a healthcare facility, - Analyze the differences in communication according to the age of clients, - Characterize the communication systems and usage of communication options from the point of view of multiculturalism, - Know about the problematics of self-sufficiency, dependency, and care in old age with regards to the communication problems and barriers, - Consider and apply ethical problematics in communication with respect to the health conditions of an individual - giving information, forms, and means, - Suitably apply the acquired knowledge during communication with people who have their specific needs/ with disabilities ( sensory or physical), - Argue in favor of the roles and options of communication means in health prevention and health promotion in the society.
