Course content
|
- Content and fundamental division of the fields of study, interdisciplinary relationships. - Classification of defects, clinical picture, therapy, prognosis, and prevention of the most frequent diseases in each field of study. - Introduction to orthopedics, orthopedic examination. - Structure and function of the locomotor system. - Basic characteristics: inflammatory and oncologic diseases of the muscular system, defects, and diseases of the upper and lower limbs, including the problematics of a poor posture. - Defects of the muscular system - Introduction to neurology, neurologic examination, and the main neurologic syndromes. - Basic characteristics: diseases of peripheral nerves, seizure disorders, neuromuscular junction diseases, traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, vascular, infectious diseases of the nervous system. - Introduction to psychiatry - diagnosis, therapy, and prevention. - Cognitive processes, consciousness, thinking, intellect, emotions, instincts, will and actions, personality, and characteristics of its diseases. - Introduction to ORL - diagnosis, therapy, and prevention. - Congenital and acquired disorders of the hearing, voice, and speech. - Introduction to ophthalmology - diagnosis, therapy, and prevention. - Basic characteristics of particular diseases - tumors and inflammations. - Introduction to genetics - Non-professional first aid - Child development.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of this course is to offer students an insight into the medical fields of neurology, psychiatry, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, endocrinology, allergology, orthopaedics and genetics from a propaedeutical point of view. Besides, the course accents the necessity to be familiar with the practical knowledge in the areas of human development, somatic diseases and first aid. Students will acquire a general overview of these disciplines in line with the anticipated requirements of the graduate profile in teaching practice.
The student is familiar with the various stages of a child's development and their basic characteristics. The student is familiar with neurological examinations and the main neurological syndromes, and is able to describe the basic characteristics of peripheral nerve disorders, paroxysmal, vascular and inflammatory disorders of the nervous system. The student has a good understanding of psychiatric disorders, with a focus on cognitive processes, their diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The student demonstrates knowledge in the fields of otolaryngology and ophthalmology, with a focus on congenital and acquired disorders of hearing, vision, voice and speech. Students are familiar with the basic characteristics of endocrine, allergic and common somatic disorders in childhood. Students are able to describe examinations in orthopaedics and are familiar with the function and structure of the musculoskeletal system. Students have a basic understanding of human genetics.

Prerequisites
|
The student knows the different developmental stages of child development and its basic characteristics. The student can describe the examination in orthopaedics, knows the function and structure of the locomotor system. The student can define the basic characteristics of musculoskeletal disorders, including the classification of their defects. The student is familiar with neurological examinations and the major neurological syndromes, and can describe the basic characteristics of peripheral nerve, seizure, vascular, and inflammatory diseases of the nervous system. The student is familiar with psychiatric diseases, focusing on cognitive processes, their diagnosis, therapy and prevention. The student will demonstrate knowledge of ENT, ophthalmology, with a focus on congenital and acquired disorders of hearing, voice, and speech The student has a basic understanding of human genetics.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam, Student performance, Seminar Work
Compulsory and active participation in classes is required. Each student must complete a task on a specified field-related topic, which must be submitted at least one week before the credit is awarded. The marking and assessment of individual work by the lecturer is a prerequisite for obtaining the credit and proceeding to the examination. The examination will take the form of a written test, with a minimum pass mark of 75 per cent.
