Course content
The content of the course includes basic concepts and institutes of family law, the understanding of which is to enable the basic orientation of the student in family law relations and their implementation. The subject of interest is therefore both theoretical background and practical perspectives on the legal regulation of family law. The lectures are supplemented by demonstrative examples aimed at achieving the student's ability to apply the legal regulations discussed to specific legal situations occurring in the reality of family-law relations. The content of the course includes theoretical and practical background of the following topics. 1. family law - the concept of family law, the subject of family law, legal regulation of family law, the Convention on the Rights of the Child. 2. Marriage - the concept of marriage, types of marriage, rights and obligations of spouses, dissolution of marriage, divorce and its consequences. 3. Registered partnership - concept of registered partnership, formation of partnership, rights and obligations of partners, dissolution of partnership and its consequences. 4. Parental responsibility - the concept of parental responsibility, determination of parenthood and paternity, rights and duties of parents towards children, interference with parental responsibility. 5. Maintenance - concept of maintenance obligation, creation and termination of maintenance obligation, types of maintenance, determination of the amount of maintenance. 6. Surrogate family care - the concept of surrogate family care, social and legal protection of children, forms of surrogate family care. 7. matrimonial property - the concept of matrimonial property, the creation of matrimonial property, the scope of matrimonial property, changes in the scope of matrimonial property, the administration of matrimonial property, the dissolution of matrimonial property. 8. Inheritance - concept of inheritance law, incapacity to inherit, disinheritance, disownment, renunciation and abandonment of inheritance, liability for the debts of the testator, succession by operation of law, succession by will, contract of succession, legacy.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the Family Law course is to obtain a basic, comprehensive and legally determined overview of the legal regulation of family law. Knowledge and understanding of family law is a prerequisite for the student's basic orientation in the system of family law relations and their practical implementation.
Upon completion of the course, students should be able to: characterize family law, define family law relationships, explain the formation, nullity, non-existence and dissolution of marriage, describe the relationships between spouses and registered partners, express the nature of the determination of parenthood, analyse parental responsibility and maintenance obligations between relatives, categorise surrogate family care.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of social sciences at secondary school level.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Active participation in classes, individual study of recommended literature, active work with current legislation.
