Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of integral anthropology as a holistic field of study which emphasizes the bio-psycho-socio-cultural and spiritual approach towards human, his/her specific community, culture and subculture. The course is based on the functional linkage between the knowledge of natural sciences and liberal arts. Therefore, the biological and anthropo-phylogenetic context of human existence (for instance, the questions of morphology and variability of a human body, the role of genetics, natural selection, and outer environment) cannot be omitted. The main focus of the course, with respect to the orientation of the students on museum education, is sociocultural anthropology. Its purpose is the genesis, development, structure, and functioning of diverse sociocultural systems in time and space, a study of values, institutions, and traditions formed in the context of social structure, as same as the study of culture with respect to specific human non-genetic aspects occurring in the form of artifacts, norms, regulations, and ideas shared by the members of the society. Focus is also on identity, its formation, changes, namely with respect to ethnicity, nation and nationality. Then the topic of religion from the anthropometric point of view is emphasized in the course. Students are going to be marginally introduced to the basics of body anthropology. Students will be familiar with the concept of pedagogical anthropology, which is to be presented as a mutual interest of pedagogy and anthropology in the preservation and development of human and human societies (also with respect to the orientation of the students).
After passing the course, students should be able to: - explain the concept of integral anthropology and describe the fundamental pillars on which it is based. - describe the basic paradigm of biological and developmental anthropology and define their basic terminology; - understand the basic anthropo-phylogenetic contexts of human existence; - define the basic terminology of social and cultural anthropology; - describe and interpret the main theories of anthropology and the basic methodological procedures characteristic for cultural and social anthropology; - understand the phenomena of cultural diversity and ethnocentrism. Present arguments in favor of cultural relativism, - describe and interpret (from the perspective of social and cultural anthropology) the basic social organizations and systems; - describe the connections / state the fundamental difference between ethnology and ethnography and the specifics of field/ethnologic/ethnographic research; - characterize the phenomena of identity in relation to the ethnicity, nation, and nationality in its stable state and through changes; - show the basic knowledge of anthropology of religion; - understand the basics of body anthropology; - describe the two main concepts of pedagogical anthropology and demonstrate the ability to apply them in the context of museum education; - apply the knowledge of integral anthropology in particular model situations, utilizable in museum education.
