Course content
Healthy nutrition principles, current issues of healthy way of eating. Traditional ways of eating in our countries. Eating habits in selected European countries and in countries outside Europe. Alternative ways of heating (vegetarianism, macrobiotics, divided diet, nutrition according to blood groups, etc.). Qualitative and quantitative demands on nutrition of a pregnant and a nursing woman. Nutritional specifics for a newborn and an infant. Eating disorders ? anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa. Excessive food intake and obesity. Daily eating regime with regards to age, gender and professional specifics. Nutritional and qualitative demands for children in toddler and preschool age. Demands for nutrition of younger and older school-age children. Nutrition for adolescent girls and boys with respect for their lifestyle and physical activity. Nutritional needs of adult population with regard to gender, profession and lifestyle. Nutritional issues for people in old age. Qualitative and quantitative demands for athletes? nutrition. Diet regime for selected types of diseases (DM, celiac disease, phenylketonuria, allergies,?), a system of diet in healthcare facilities. Nutrition in severe conditions ? demands for enteral and paraenteral nutrition. Nutritional supplements, their outline, the significance of indication and contraindication for use. Advertising and nutrition. Alimentary infections. Culinary food preparations. General and traditional classification of foods.

Learning outcomes
The Nutrition discipline aims for students to learn about the principles of healthy nutrition, traditional as well as alternative forms of eating in our country and abroad. They will be able to assess both quantitative and qualitative demands on nutrition during ontogenetic development in specific groups of population (pregnant and nursing women, athletes, etc.). They will be introduced to eating disorders and to methods of assessing optimum nutritional status. They will acquire knowledge of diets for selected diseases (allergies, celiac disease, diabetes, diseases of civilization), learn about alimentation in healthcare facilities, they will have knowledge of the main alimentary infections, etc. The discipline utilises knowledge acquired by students within the course Somatology of Childhood, and vice versa students can apply the knowledge acquired herein in the discipline Methodology of Health Education, etc.
Students acquire the latest scientific findings in the field of human nutrition. They get acquainted with the nutritional characteristics of individual population groups. They will be able to analyze the influence of nutrition on human health, particularly the impact of preventive nutrition.

Passing the disciplines of nutrition physiology at current prices. Health education program focusing on education, study of Teacher Training in Health Education

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam, Seminar Work

Active participation in the seminar (mandatory participation of 90%). Processing, presentation and delivery of seminar work and cooperation on a given project.
