Course content

1) Recognition of scientific and non-scientific text. 2) Introduction to professional resources (books, magazines). 3) Real making of scientific text. 4) Citation and citation standard. 5) What is science? What is distinguishing science and research from other human actions. 6) Presentation of science and research (written, visual, audio-visual). 7) Ethical questions in science.

Learning outcomes
|
The course prepares students to handle work with scientific articles and provides orientation in methodology strategies in science and research. Characterize various types of written work. Scientific text; its purpose and composition. Methodology of writing scientific text. Formal text editing. Using of resources and citations. Grammatical training and summary of most common typographical errors. Base methodology in anthropology. Introduction to qualitative and quantitative research. Examples of scientific methodology. Electronical informational resources and electronical databases of UPOL. Visual representation and making powerpoint or Prezi presentation. Ethical questions connected to work presentation. Ethical actions in science and research.
After completion, student will be able to: 1) Make their own scientific text with formal editing, including bibliographical citation, 2) Orientate themselves in methodological strategies and choose them appropriately, 3) Represent their theses and articles in front of an audience, 4) Find most common typographical errors and avoid them, 5) Use information and resources effectively.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Dialog, Seminar Work, Written exam
Write down scientific text with formal requirements, including bibliographical citation, lenght min. 5 pages A4 (with citation of at least one foreign author) on selected topic. Student in combined form further so called guided self-study, including preparation to consulting - tutorials (student is methodically guided by teacher). Literature: see below. Continuous evaluation of students and correction of information acquired through self-study on group and individual consultation, through email, possibly in system LMS Unifor.
