Course content
The importance and the basis of demography, subject of research and demographic behavior. Demographic phenomenon and events (natality, mortality, illnesses rates, abortion rates, marriage rates, divorce rates and migration). Sources of demographic data and information sources. Demographic structure of population, including its distribution in space. Analysis of demographic processes in connection to demographic projection and prognosis. Population theory and natality policy. Household.

Learning outcomes
After passing the course students should be able to: - Define basic demographic terminology - Describe the relations between individual demographic processes and events - Explain the importance of demography for current and historical population behavior of people - List and characterize individual demographic events - Assess the quality of information sources in demography - Analyze the level of current demographic cognition with focus on its practical use
After passing the course student should acquire the competence to: - Analyze population development, - Create a summary of demographic characteristic of chosen municipality, Prove relation between socioeconomic indicators and population structure in given area.
Prerequisites
Orientation in issues of population statistics on high school level

Oral exam, Written exam, Seminar Work

Active participation in class Seminar paper (uploaded in Portal UP for plagiarism control) Preparation for the exam Note: Lecturer can modify the requirements for passing the course (specify) in its beginning
