Course content
Status of family as a system, and its structure, in the Czech Republic and in the world. Educational styles. Types and functions of family. Family members as educators. Importance of family environment for the child's personality development, internal and external conditions for family upbringing. Specific features of the educational role of the father, mother, siblings and grandparents. Educational nature and means of emotional and intellectual development a child. New phenomena in contemporary transformation of family life. Partner and family relationships, alternative types of family-like cohabitation, types of family environments. Malfunctions of family and parenthood, parental responsibility. Family violence, abused child, delinquency and aggression. Restoration of family. Respect for the rights of the child. Status of a child in family in the past and at present. The legal status of family. Issues related to cooperation (communication) between parents and teachers, and between school and family.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Projection (static, dynamic)
  • Preparation for the Exam - 10 hours per semester

  • Semestral Work - 10 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able to: - understand and explain the importance of family upbringing in the broader context of education and upbringing, - comprehend the educational essence of and means for emotional and intellectual development of a child, - interpret strategies for family upbringing, define the characteristics of educational roles, - analyze malfunctions of family and parenthood, - define family violence and abused child, and - use information about family education to plan for cooperation between school and family.

Prerequisites
This course specializes in family issues.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

The conditions laid down by the teacher at the beginning of the semester. Elaboration of seminary work on an assigned topic within the range of 7 standard A4 pages, including references to sources used in accordance with ISO 690. Students also inserts a seminary work in Portal UP - portal.upol.cz in "My studies" - "Submissions". Seminary work is controlled automatically by the system for detecting plagiarism.
