Course content
|
Menstrual and ovulation cycle, fertilization. Intrauterine development of the embryo and foetus. Diagnostics and signs of pregnancy. Changes in the body of a pregnant woman. Physiological gravidity. High-risk and pathological pregnancy. The system of care for pregnant women, prenatal counselling, examination methods during pregnancy. Lifestyle during pregnancy Antenatal training, pregnancy classes, birth plan. Parents? preparation for arrival of a baby, baby layettes. Duration of pregnancy, birth date, possibilities of pregnancy termination. Physiological labour ? stage 1. Physiological labour ? stage 2. Physiological labour ? stage 3. Physiological labour ? stage 4. Alternative childbirth (in water, on a birthing stool, ?.), the Leboyer birth method. High-risk and pathological childbirth, operative childbirth. The issues of pueperium, postpartum depressions, lactation psychosis. Breastfeeding ? significance, milk composition, breastfeeding technique, frequency, contraindications, aids,? Regular medical examinations of the child from birth, child vaccination (mandatory in accordance with a vaccination calendar, extra vaccinations) Care of a newborn (immediately after birth until day 28) ? hygiene, nutrition, sleep, bio-psycho-social development. Care of an infant ? hygiene, nutrition, sleep, bio-psycho-social development. Care of a toddler ? hygiene, nutrition, sleep, bio-psycho-social development.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is of theoretically-practical and significantly educational nature. It deals with basic and special care of a pregnant woman, a para, a puerpera and a nursing mother. Emphasis is mainly on physiological pregnancy and childbirth, including alternative ways to care for a pregnant woman, a para, a puerpara and a nursing mother. The contents of the course also include care of a newborn, an infant and a toddler, with emphasis on the biological and medical aspects. Marginal attention is also paid to psychological, social and legal aspects of family care (mother and child). Teaching uses videos, demonstration of aids and practical procedures. Part of the class is also a visit to the Department of Midwifery at the Faculty of Health Sciences UP in Olomouc and the delivery room at the Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Faculty Hospital in Olomouc.

Mark, Written exam, Seminar Work
Working in a group on an assigned project, presentation of the project within classes. Active participation in seminars (mandatory participation of min. 80%).
