Course content
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, BLS, PBLS, ALS, PALS. AED, manual defibrillator. ACLS practice - practce on manikins, high-fidelity simulation. PNO puncture, coniotomy. Anesthesia - pre-anaesthetic examination, types of anesthesia, drugs and pharmacology, course of anaesthesia, complications. Praxis in anaesthesia in high-fidelity simulator, in OR - during the day and night shifts. Airway management. Patient monitoring. Perioperative care. Acute and chronic pain. Intensive care - general aspects, cannulation, monitoring incl. invasive, nutrition, basics of mechanical ventilation. Brain death - diagnostics, donor program. Shock. Sepsis and MODS. Respiratory insufficiency. ARDS, causes, diagnosis, therapy. Ethics and palliative care. Praxis at KARIM intensive care and long term units.

Learning outcomes
Providing basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including skills to maintain the airway with the help of simple devices or by performing other life-saving procedures. Assessment and preparation of patient for anaesthesia, introduction to basic procedures and anaesthetic techniques, introduction to basics of intensive and resuscitation care, basics of acute and chronic pain treatment and palliative care.
After participation in the course the students will be able to provide basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation including implementation of life-saving procedures and will be orientated in anaesthesia. They will be able to assess the risk of the patient in relation to anesthesia and correctly indicate the extent of necessary preoperative examinations. They will be familiar with the indications for admission to ICU and HDU beds and the most common reasons for admission. They will be able to initiate the treatment of acute and chronic pain.
Prerequisites
After participation in the course the students will be able to provide basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation including implementation of life-saving procedures and will be orientated in anaesthesia, emergency and intensive medicine problems. They will know the basic principles of acute and chronic pain treatment and the role of palliative medicine in intensive care.

90% participation, ACLS training on a high-fidelity simulator, active participation in seminars and practical exercises, completion of partial tasks, written test over 75%
