Course content
WRITTEN TEST Format Reading Comprehension: Text with academic topic of general interest (rather than text for professionals) at B2 level, questions with various test tasks (e.g. multiple choice, choosing the right heading for each paragraph, sentence completion, true / false / not given answers, or multiple matching). No dictionaries are permitted. Grammar and Vocabulary: questions with various test tasks (e.g. multiple choice, gap fill and word formation). Any deviations from the standard spelling are considered to be mistakes. No dictionaries are permitted. ORAL EXAM Format Introduction or the student: internships, studies abroad, publications 2 - 3 minutes plus answering the examiner's questions. PowerPoint presentation in the field of doctoral studies lasting up to 10 minutes followed by a discussion. Presentations must be comprehensible for the examiner. Students will talk about their work with the help of brief bullet points in their presentation. Presentations must not contain coherent text which students would be tempted to read (students bring their presentation on a flash drive. Prior to the oral exam students must submit (min. 10 days before the oral examination: - structured CV (max. 2 pages A4) - The presentation of the doctoral project - max. 1 page A4 - coherent text. - Overview of the presentation slides in PowerPoint - max. 8-10 slides, including the initial and final slide. - A list of key terminology: 30 - 40 key terms, specialist rather than general vocabulary and Czech translation. Learning outcomes
Final certification of the German language in doctoral studies at FF UP verifies all the language skills. Successful completion of the exam requires knowledge of the language at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
In order to pass this exam, the student must have a good command of the foreign language they have chosen to take the exam in (approx. at level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), must be able to communicate on topics related to their field of research, and must understand subject-related texts.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Didactic Test

- Students have to register for both the written and an oral exam through Stag. - First students have to pass the written test, for which credit will be granted. Taking the oral test is subject to prior acquisition of the credit for the written test. - Written and oral exam are assessed separately. If a student fails one part, written or oral, they retake only that part. - Students can be exempted from taking the written test if they own an INTERNATIONAL B2 certificate, such as Goethe or ÖSD (only certificates that are less than five years old can be recognized), have studied English Philology or a related subject at University.
