The Wars of Roses. Tudor England. Elizabethan period. The Stuarts and the Civil War. The British Empire and the Industrial Revolution. Victorian England. World War I and II and what followed. End of the Empire. Modern Britain and its problems arising from history.

Výstupy z učení

Students will be able to understand the most important moments of British history and their relationship to the present-day situation, to characterise the most important personalities of British history and put events on the timeline. Requirements for students with the individual study plan (ISP) and/or students with special needs: Students with ISP will write an extra written work (essays, 4-5 pages, on a course-related topic approved by the instructor) and post it at the course page in Moodle. Alternately, students with ISP and/special needs meet the adapted course requirements (written and/or oral testing) based on the expert recommendations of The Support Centre for Students with Special Needs.
Ability to study in English.

Students are set homework and quizzes all through the term in the online course. Active participation, with all tasks being fulfilled, is the condition for getting a credit for the seminars. The course is concluded with a written test.
