Course content
During the seminar, students will receive texts related to Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, an overview of the Great Vowel Shift and consonant changes from Old English to Middle English, and a basic overview of the vocabulary necessary for understanding Canterbury Tales, including J. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - Actively apply a diachronic perspective to contemporary English, - explain the historical context of phenomena that appear as exceptions in the synchronic view of contemporary English, - understand selected texts in Middle and Old English.
