During the seminar, students will receive texts related to Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, an overview of the Great Vowel Shift and consonant changes from Old English to Middle English, and a basic overview of the vocabulary necessary for understanding Canterbury Tales, including J. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - Actively apply a diachronic perspective to contemporary English, - explain the historical context of phenomena that appear as exceptions in the synchronic view of contemporary English, - understand selected texts in the Middle English. Students with Individual Study Plan: attendance is not required, self-study according to the course syllabus, final analysis of the text.
