|
Topics: Psychological and pedagogical principles underlying foreign language learning. Principles for the short-term and long-term planning of FLT in relation to the requirements set by the national curriculum for foreign languages. Ways of organising teaching and ensuring learner involvement in FLT. Development of methods and approaches to FLT. The changing roles of teachers and learners and their interactions during classroom instruction. Evaluation and selection of teaching materials suitable for FLT in basic schools. Content-based and process syllabus. Basic components constituting a syllabus and its structure. Principles underlying presentation, practice, production and reinforcement of the language systems and language skills. Feedback and assessment. Suitable approaches to error (and mistake) correction with respect to fluency and accuracy. Classroom research and its application to teaching practice.

After completing the course students will be able to: - formulate learning aims and criteria to ensure the fulfilment of these, - evaluate, select and use teaching materials suitable for FLT in basic schools, - use feedback and assessment in a suitable way, - understand the principles of content-based and process syllabus development, - use appropriate methods and approaches to FLT in basic schools, - understand the principles of Visible Learning.
