Aims: After completing the course students will be able to: - know the literary production of the UK from the post-war period until the present, - name and characterize representative authors of postcolonial, Irish, Scottish and Welsh literature, - extend their knowledge of history and culture of the UK by reading literary texts, - interpret literary texts in the frame of the authors? lives, historical backgrounds and contemporary viewpoints, - assess the quality of literary texts, - summarize topics, that may be illustrated by a selected literary text in ELT, and language skills, that may be developed by using the text. Topics: Post-war writers and their later development. Postmodernism a postcolonialism and their manifestations in 20th and 21st century British literature. The reflection of feminism in the works of contemporary women writers in the UK. Contemporary drama, Irish and Scottish drama, In-yer-face theatre. Post-war poetry until the present. Tradition and experiment in 20th and 21st century British literature.
