Middle Ages Renaissance and 17th century 18th century - Age of Reason 19th century - Regency and Victorian literature 20th century - modernism and postmodernism History of Drama

Learning outcomes
This is a survey course covering the main developments in the history of English literature, culture, and literary criticism from the Middle Ages until the present. The key writers, landmark texts, as well as their historical and philosophical backgrounds will be discussed. During this course, students should acquire a deeper understanding of English literature in context.
