Course content
|
The course focuses on three large areas: 1. methods and approaches to English language teaching with special emphasis on teaching (with special focus on Comenius and the Prague School of Linguistics, on grammar, attitudes to errors and drilling, the use of mother tongue and English in English lessons, critical evaluation of lessons of observed lessons); 2. teaching materials evaluation and syllabus design, 3. the development of the would-be teacher classroom language.

Learning outcomes
|
The students will come across the main topics and terminology concerning the field of English language teaching methodology. They will become aware of the main theoretical and practical issues of teaching English to primary and lower-secondary pupils. They will learn the main concepts of teaching pupils across different and proficiency levels. In addition, they will develop classroom English - the language for classroom communication between the teacher and pupils.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam, Student performance, Analyssis of the Student's Portfolio
Credit requirements 1.Attendance - 80%. 2. Keeping a reading log of assigned and chosen articles dealing with the term topics (100-150 pages). 3. Classroom language-based project - exercise design. 4. Analysis of three recorded lessons of English. Colloquium requirements Oral group or pair discussion (10 minutes per student) Students are required to show their understanding of teaching methods and approaches to TEFL, teaching materials evaluation and syllabus design with respect to mainstream teaching materials, including listening materials and online sources. The emphasis, however, is on the student language as well while delivering a given topic ? appropriate language and its correctness.
