Course content
Efective translation. Guidelines for translation between English and Czech. Critical assessment of translated text. Traslating passive voice constructions, non-finite verbal constructions, complex noun phrases, short interjections, etc.

Learning outcomes
The course provides an introduction to the field of literary translation. Students explore various challenging areas of translation between English and Czech, translate short texts and discuss their translations.

Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work

- 80% attendance - absolutely crucial! - translating short passages for homework - active participation in class discussions - submiting one piece of high quality translation of a short literary text
