After the completion of the course, students will be able to: - orient themselves in the history of English literature from the beginnings until the late 19th century - name and characterize major authors and their works in historical context - explain the significance of literary works - evaluate the quality of literary texts - interpret texts against their historical background, the authors' lives and contemporary reception

Students are required: to read on schedule (shorter texts: short stories or poems and also several novels), participate actively in class discussions, read recommended books in English and be prepared to discuss them with the teacher, write an essay. |
