Course content
Topics: 1. English language in education in the Czech Republic. a. Curriculum. b. Teaching methodology. c. English Language Teaching (ELT) 2. Psychological basis of foreign language learning and acquisition. a. Different levels of learners (11-15 ages). b. Different stages of cognitive development (11-15 ages). c. Different verbal abilities and social skills (11-15 ages). 3. Principles of language teaching methodology at lower secondary school level. a. Fundamental methodological approaches in ELT. b. Methods, approaches, organizational forms and instructions in ELT. 4. Methods, approaches, organizational forms and instructions in ELT. a. TT vs ST, how much should teacher talk? b. Forms of teaching in heterogeneous classes. Work organization: pair work, group work, class work. c. Student-engaging methods. 5. Student motivation in school and homework.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: " characterize the differences of students aged 11 - 15 (level of cognitive processes, verbal abilities and social skills), " list and characterize the methods, procedures and organizational forms of foreign language teaching suitable for pupils of the lower-secondary school, " master the basic didactic procedures and means to ensure the motivation of pupils in English classes at the lower-secondary level of school, " understand the importance of English as a language of communication between teacher and pupils in the classroom,

80% of attendance, be present for the whole seminar, be active. Group project: work in groups of 3 and present a group project according to the schedule. (details specified by teacher on Moodle)
