Course content
1. Meaning and function of financial accounting, the subject of accounting. 2. Company assets ? economic resources (assets) and sources of their coverage (liabilities). 3. Balance sheet ? the basic financial statement. 4. Depreciation of a long-term assets. Book depreciation and tax depreciation. 5. Characteristics of costs, revenues and profit and loss and their statements. 6. Evidence of costs and revenues and their relation to the tax system, particularly income tax and value added tax. 7. Methodological elements of accounting system ? an account, accounting entry, accounting documents, a ledger, an accounting transaction. 8. Double-entry bookkeeping, types of accounting transactions. 9. Balance sheet accounts, off-balance-sheet accounts and final accounts. 10. Chart of accounts, accounting methodology. Connection of chart of accounts and the tax system. 11. Principles and rules of accounting. 12. Legal framework of accounting in the Czech Republic and its connection to the law of the European Union and international accounting standards. 13. Characteristics, comparison and use of financial, managerial and tax accounting in business management system. 14. Basic rules for accounting transactions ? financial accounts.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize with basics of theory of accounting, its sense and meaning for economical reality.
Knowledge of a connection between accounting and tax system, basic understanding of published accounting information ? financial statements ? and application of theoretical knowledge in practice.

There are no required course prerequisites.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Credit test (first attempt in the 13th week, at least 70% of correct answers)
