Course content
1.Relationship between economics and environment, public goods, externalities 2. Economic theories and environmental protection 3. Microeconomic aspects, economic damage, abatement costs 4. Macroeconomic aspects, environmental quality optimum, economic indicators 5. Economic value of environmental goods 6. Economic valuation methods 7. Environmental protection policy and possibilities of internalisation of negative externalities 8. Public budgets and funds, subsidies 9. Environmental taxes and charges 10. Tradable emission allowances and tradable rights 11. Voluntary instruments and environmental management 12. Circular economy and bioeconomy 13. Methods for assessing the impact of instruments and interventions

Learning outcomes
The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to identify, define, evaluate and communicate the links between economic development and environmental and climate protection at local, national, international and global levels. The course will also focus on alternative economic approaches to environmental and climate protection as well as current economic and financial instruments in this field in the Czech Republic and abroad (EU, world).
The graduate can describe the approaches of economics in environmental and climate protection issues, define the way of decision making of economic entities on allocation of environmental goods and describe policy making in environmental and climate protection. Furthermore, the graduate can: - Critically reflect on basic economic theories and concepts of environmental protection, - Critically evaluate the potential of economic and financial policy instruments at different levels (local, national, international, global), - evaluate the potential impacts of environmental protection projects, their environmental effectiveness and economic efficiency.

Written exam, Student performance

Regular attendance, activity at seminars, written exam, team project evaluation (students in groups prepare a semester project). All team members will be required to be present for the defense of the semester project, and each member will be involved in the preparation of the project and its final presentation.
