Course content
Topics: 1. Economic history and economics: methodological discussions, literature, definitions 2. Economic history versus history, implications of the economic model in historical facts 3. Historical methods in the history of economic theories: historicism, stylized history, institutionalism 4. Econometrics: essence, examples of application, the most important representatives of the field 5. Cliometrics: examples of application, the most important representatives of the field 6. Historical time, perception of time: examples from oral history 7. Theory of bounded rationality, advantages and limits for interpretation of historical facts 8. Historical sources for quantitative research, their typology, concrete examples 9. Basic rules for working with historical records, critique of sources (verification of plausibility, etc.) 10.-12. Historical background of selected current economic phenomena

Learning outcomes
The course is designed to introduce the domain of economic history as one of the areas of economics and social sciences. The course topics primarily cover financial and business history and include also the areas of social history, demography, and labor history. The course aims to broaden the students' knowledge of economic thought and history as well as the knowledge of methodological and applied approaches.
- orientation in economic history - ability to interpret economic phenomena on the historical background - application of analysis of economic history that uses a combination of historical methods, statistical methods - application of economic theory to historical situations and institutions
Prerequisites
Interest in issues and basic orientation in history. Knowledge of another foreign language (especially German) is an advantage.
